Again (Theme: At the Beach) by Julie Hager
Again
Dark passions moil in the belly of the
ocean.
Rage swells under ominous skies,
Surging, burgeoning,
(You can see it coming a mile away.)
Rising, building to a baneful crest,
Rushing towards its inescapable conclusion.
Then
Waves smash on rocks like spilt milk.
Sea slaps against face of cliff.
Sea, foaming at the mouth,
Exploding through defences,
Clattering through pebbles like broken
bones.
Flotsam and jetsam
Tossed in the air,
Hurled against sea wall in savage fury.
Coast crumbles and surrenders again,
Violated,
Decimated,
Worn down.
Morning comes.
The sea lays its head against the shore
And whispers, “Hush” and “Hush,”
In quiet repetitions,
Runs its fingers through shingle
In gentle caresses.
The Earth sighs through eons of scars.
“And so now you are sorry – again.”
This is so powerful. I'm falling in love with your poetry, Julie.
